Accessibility Statement

We strive to allow our platform to be used by the widest possible audience, including those with visual impairments. Our journal articles are available as downloadable PDFs on our platform at http://www.uwpress.org/ All files are free of digital rights management (DRM).

Accessibility of File Formats

Our article PDF files are accessible to screen readers, but improvements are required in terms of document structure and reading order. We are working with our typesetters to address this by improving the reading order structure and including heading-level bookmarks.

We are in the process of updating our hosting platform. It is anticipated that we will be able to provide improved accessibility after January 1, 2021.

Accessibility Standards

Our technology partner, HighWire Press, has an ongoing strategy to support accessibility as defined in Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, as amended (29 U.S.C. § 794 (d)) (https://www.section508.gov/content/learn/laws-and-policies) and the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.0 (https://www.w3.org/TR/WCAG20/). HighWire audits its book and journal site products against these standards annually. Standard HighWire pages for book and journal sites either “support” or “support with some exceptions” VPAT (https://www.itic.org/policy/accessibility/vpat/) Section 1194.22 Web-based intranet and Internet information and applications where applicable.

Known Issues

We are aware that the frames used by our website provider are not fully responsive. When you magnify the content, it will not reflow.

What We’re Doing to Improve Accessibility

We are migrating our content to an updated hosting platform, which will improve accessibility. We expect our new platform to be available after 1/1/2021. In addition, we are working with our typesetters to improve the structure and tagging of our pdf files.

Contact Information
