THE EDUCATIONAL FILM CENTERThe Educational Film Center (EFC) is a non-profit educational television-video-film-and-interactive multimedia production company which during the past 30 years has created over 600 hundred documentary and dramatic productions for worldwide broadcast, cable, satellite, colleges, schools, libraries, and museums. The Center is incorporated as a 501(c)3 educational organization.
Recent productions for PBS and worldwide broadcast include: THE MARSHALL PLAN: AGAINST THE ODDS, with Roger Mudd; ONE WOMAN, ONE VOTE, the two-hour special on the history of woman suffrage narrated by Susan Sarandon, for the PBS American Experience series; the one-hour documentary specials, OFF LIMITS: YOUR HEALTH, YOUR JOB, YOUR PRIVACY, with Scott Simon and THE ODYSSEY OF JOHN DOS PASSOS, with Robert McNeil and William Hurt; the ninety-minute national Emmy nominated documentary special, HARRY HOPKINS: AT FDR'S SIDE, narrated by Walter Cronkite; and INSIDE THE GLOBAL ECONOMY, a 13 hour series.
EFC recently completed the 12 part broadcast ethnomusicology series EXPLORING THE WORLD OF MUSIC in association with Pacific Street Films; the 8 hour series and teacher training workshop for satellite distribution, IN SEARCH OF THE NOVEL; THE SECRET TO CHANGE: The Millie Jeffrey Story; and the full motion interactive multimedia CD-R0M series SETQuest. EFC has just finished the national televison production of the ninety minute special, WHO KILLED THE FEDERAL THEATRE hosted by Judd Hirsh; completed the one hour special on THE HISTORY OF SOCIAL WORK IN AMERICA and the 8 hour series and teacher training workshop TO DO CHEMISTRY AND BEYOND; the 15 part civics series, DEMOCRACY IN AMERICA with Renee Poussaint; and an update of 10 programs in its 28 part ECONOMICS U$A SERIES
Past national broadcast programming include the two-hour historical documentary, America's EMBATTLED ECONOMY; ECONOMICS U$A; the twenty-six part THE WORLD OF CHEMISTRY; the historical dramatic specials TRAITOR IN MY HOUSE for PBS/ Wonderworks; and OUT OF TIME for NBC and Showtime; EDUCATION TODAY for The Learning Channel; FOOTSTEPS, the 30 part parenting series; and POWERHOUSE, the youth adventure series for PBS.
In addition to broadcast/cable production, EFC has created a number of curriculum-based education target audience and training programs. This work includes; the 26 part historical series LIVE FROM THE PAST; three videodiscs —ISSUES IN CHEMISTRY and CHEMISTRY DEMONSTRATIONS AND ANIMATIONS; the twelve part VARIATIONS IN LIFE SCIENCE and the VARIATIONS INTERACTIVE CD-ROM; WHO KILLED SERVICE?, for Customer Service Programs; CREATIVE CURRICULUM, INDIVIDUALIZING IN HEADSTART, and A GLOBAL SOLUTION, for A.I.D.
EFC's programming has received more than 100 awards including: a National Emmy, fifteen Regional Emmies, 9 Ohio State Awards, a Gabriel Award, the American Childrenís TV Festival Award, 16 Cine Golden Eagles, the NEA Award for excellence, and medals from a wide range of international film/video festivals.
