Wisconsin Poets at the Elvehjem Museum of Art Foreword by Russell Panczenko Aristotle was proably the first to propose a comparison between poetry and painting. He and the other ancients considered these two art forms to be the most important and the most worthy of practice and discussion Ever since, ut picutra poesis (as is painting, so is poetry) as this concept was later called in Latin, has played a vital role in the development of artistic and literary theory throughout western history. Here thirty-four poets use art in the Elvehjem galleries as their inspiration. Each artwork is shown on a page facing the poem. Appropriately, the publication of Wisconsin Poets coincided with the Elvehjem's twenty-five anniversary.
