Robert Engberg is social studies department chairperson at Mission Bay High School in San Diego. He has studied Muir's life for some twenty years. He is the editor of John Muir to Yosemite and Beyond (with Donald Wesling), and Letters from Alaska, also published by the University of Wisconsin Press.
