Sponsored by the University of Wisconsin Foundation and the Department of History of the University of Wisconsin–Madison. The books in the series are by some of the most prominent historians in the world and are based upon a series of lectures in social and intellectual history that was inaugurated in 1976 in honor of the distinguished historian Merle Curti.
