The Falling of the Pine
Brian Miller and Randy Gosa

Songs and dance tunes from the lumberjack era

Bemidji, Minnesota, native Brian Miller teams up with Randy Gosa of Wales, Wisconsin, to perform the Irish-influenced music once common in lumber camp bunkhouses throughout the Great Lakes region of the United States and Canada. A follow-up to Miller’s album Minnesota Lumberjack Songs, this CD includes songs and dance tunes from North Dakota, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, and Ontario. Miller and Gosa accompany many of the songs with guitar, bouzouki, mandolin, harmonium, and tenor banjo. Included is a booklet with notes and historical photos.

Songs and tunes included are: The Farmer’s Boy, How We Got Up to the Woods Last Year, Leizime Brusoe’s/Morton’s, Jails of Buffalo, Roll Drivers Roll, The Falling of the Pine, Deep Deep Sea, The Heights of Alma, Raftsman Jim, The Day I Played Baseball, The Templehouse/The Ivy Leaf, Colleen Bawn, and The Jolly Raftsman.

Brian Miller (at right in photo) lives in St. Paul, Minnesota, and performs with the Two Tap Trio, the Máirtín de Cógáin Project, and Bua. He is a two-time recipient of an Artist Initiative Grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board. This CD was made possible, in part, through a grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board.
Randy Gosa has been playing Irish music since 1999 and studied music at the University of Limerick. He performs nationally with his band Myserk and also teaches at the Milwaukee Irish Fest School of Music.
