Gunnar Johansen was a celebrated Danish-born concert pianist, teacher, and composer. He performed the complete keyboard works of Bach, Beethoven, Mozart, and Schubert, as well as music that was new or overlooked. This CD set features recordings of performances given over three decades at the UW–Madison.

Gunnar Johansen moved from the University of Chicago to join the University of Wisconsin–Madison School of Music in 1939 as the first artist-in-residence at a major university. In addition to his teaching and concert career, he recorded 140 albums.
